Non Surgical Gum Therapy in Kanata Ontario

One of the biggest oral health problems plaguing Canadians is gum disease. Gum disease is an oral infection that can cause inflammation and bleeding of your gum tissues. As the infection becomes worse, it can start to impact the underlying tissues that support your teeth, causing your gums to recede and deep pockets to form. As your tissues being to break down, your teeth will loosen and fall out.

Depending on the stage of your gum disease, we may recommend non-surgical gum therapy. Non-surgical gum therapy is ideal for moderate to more severe forms of gum disease. It uses a number of different therapies, such as curettage, root planing, local medication.

Curettage removes the infected soft tissues around the tooth to allow new healthy tissues to grow. Root planing treats the tooth’s root surface by smoothing and removing tiny amounts of the infected root surface. We may also administer local medication if there is lots of plaque and bacteria buildup at the infected sites. These procedures are usually performed at the same time and promote proper healing of your gum tissues.

During your procedure, you will be given an anesthesia to minimize any discomfort. Treatment sessions are also spread out over a period of time to ensure that your gums are healing properly. Should a surgical intervention be required, we can recommend a periodontist who specializes in the surgical treatment of gum disease.
